The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique riding experience and hiking experience which is enjoyed by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel is now open as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle path that runs around Jerusalem, the capital city.

The tunnel runs along the Nahal Refaim-Emek Motza route. The southern entrance of the tunnel is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was officially opened by Jerusalem’s Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin. It was also attended by Mayor Moshelion, Avi Balehnikov Gihon Water Company Chairman, and many cyclists.

Jerusalem was once a tourist attraction because of its rich history. Elkin said that the present tourist industry is a part of Jerusalem’s historical treasures and incorporates modern day tourism. “The inauguration [of] this tunnel project is another stage in the growth of Jerusalem as a tourist destination for all types of people from Israel and around the globe.”

Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, said his ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the development of the tourism industry in Jerusalem and also in the development of exciting tourist attractions and ventures that link the rich history of our eternal capital to the future of Jerusalem… I invite the cycling community to ride a secure and modernized route that will take you through Old Jerusalem.

Elkin’s ministry and the Tourism Ministry budgeted the project.

נווה פריצקי Elkin said the fact that “The Kerem Tunnel Project is an essential tool for achieving the dream to transform the concept of transportation throughout Jerusalem.” Elkin explained that the proposed tunnel is connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path and will link with existing bike paths. The tunnel will also be made paved in its various neighborhoods. It will also encourage cycling and promote green transportation in the capital.

The current works include road construction, installation of blowers and advanced security and electrical systems to make the tunnel safe for the public to pass through all year round.

Kerem Tunnel Kerem Tunnel provides access to unique recreation locations, including Ein Kerem neighbourhood, the biblical aquarium and zoo , as also the historical natural springs Ein Haniyeh, Ein Laban, and Ein Haniyeh.
