The Kerem Tunnel is a great place to ride and hike.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest cycle tunnel, was constructed as a part of the 42-kilometer cycle route which runs through the capital.

The tunnel connects the path between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is within Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entry, Nahal Ein Kerem, is just half a kilometer away from the Kerem junction.

נווה פריצקי On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin, Mayor Michael, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman, and a slew of cyclists were present at a celebration to officially open the tunnel’s 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Elkin’s ministry, which was also in charge of the project together with Jerusalem Municipality, stated that his ministry “invests hundreds and millions of shekels each year in all aspects of Jerusalem’s tourism industry and is involved in developing exciting attractions and ventures which connect the glorious historic history of our capital city with its future.” I encourage the cycling community to ride a secure and modern route that takes the cyclist through Old Jerusalem. Elkin’s Ministry Elkin’s Ministry, the Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality, and the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the work.

Elkin said, “The Kerem Tunnel project will be the central tool for realizing our vision to change the way transportation is conducted in Jerusalem.” Elkin said that the new tunnel will connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path and will join existing bike trails. The tunnel will also be made paved in the various neighborhoods. It will also help cyclists and promote green transportation in the capital.

נווה פריצקי The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in 1990 in order to transfer the main sewer of Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. This plant is located west of Sorek and is still used as an infrastructure tunnel.

Road construction, installation, blowers, sophisticated security systems and electrical wiring are all part and parcel of the present work. The tunnel will be safe for public to use throughout the entire year.
