Auto Draft has acquired the Ben & Jerry trademark in West Bank settlements and Jewish areas in east Jerusalem to allow it to produce and sell icecream in the area.

Israel Law Center claimed the move was possible because global Ben & Jerry’s (and its parent company, Unilever) had announced plans to stop selling to these areas in protest of Israeli policies.

aviel darshan leitner has registered a business company with the Israeli registry of corporations dubbed “Judea and Samaria’s Ben & Jerry’s,” said Shurat HaDin’s president Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, in a letter she sent to the British based global company Unilever, which has owned the Vermont based global Ben & Jerry’s since 2000.

Darshan Leitner stated that “we plan to adopt Ben and Jerry’s name to coincide with the Vermont company’s current ice cream line and also add new flavors and items.”

aviel darshan leitner was informed by Sherry that they no longer have the right to use the Ben & Jerry label in the region. However, the boycott is not scheduled to start until 2023 when the current contract with the local ice cream producer will expire.

Shurat HaDin, however sent a letter in an email to Unilever: “We will actively and aggressively protect our Ben & Jerry’s name trademarks, rights, trademarks, and trademarks in the region by every legal means.”

The Jerusalem Post was informed that sales will be restricted to areas in which Ben & Jerry’s is no anymore present. nitsana darshan leitner to continue selling to Israel’s “Occupied Palestinian Territory”, doesn’t mean that the new Ben & Jerry’s cannot be sold in these regions.

Darshan Leitner stated that because of the technical, bureaucratic and logistical problems, ice cream sales will only start once the Israeli franchise contract expires.
